One of the new features of iOS 5 is the Notification Center. Notification Center is a consolidated center for all your updates and notifications, it allows you to add widgets like weather and stock which have the capability to update in realtime. If you wish to get a battery percentage widget in iOS 5 Notification Center then you can get it easily using a cydia tweak, but first you need to have a jailbroken iOS 5 device.
